{When Fashion & Sugar Collide}

When we were approached by Jo Upcraft, editor-in-chief of VIVA, to work on a wedding cake feature for VIVA Wedding’s winter 2011 issue we had a “light bulb” moment! We are constantly pushing our brides to think outside the box and go beyond the ordinary, so we thought, why not approach this feature in the same manner!

At Carousel, we are constantly drawing inspiration from the world of fashion. Whether it’s texture, design, or color palettes, the worlds of fashion and weddings have always been “co-inspirators” (yes, we are going to copyright this term!), so it was only a matter of time before we took a stunning dress and used it as a source of inspiration. In this instance, we challenged our favorite UAE based bakeries to be inspired by this gorgeous Reem Acra gown, from the 2012 Resort Collection, in designing a wedding cake for our feature.

The end result was a selection of beautifully edible masterpieces which were a true testament to the old adage “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

We styled the shoot at the Ayesha Depala store, and who better than Sherif Mokbel to forever etch the stunning cakes into our memories.
